Wife for Hire - Janet Evanovich

Wife for Hire by Janet Evanovich
Genre: Adult Romance
Form: Audio Book

Hank Mallone knows he's in trouble when Maggie Toone agrees to pretend to be his wife in order to improve his rogue's reputation. Will his harebrained scheme to get a bank loan for his business backfire once Maggie arrives in his small Vermont town and lets the gossips take a look?

Maggie never expected her employer to be drop-dead handsome, but she's too intrigued by his offer to say no . . . and too eager to escape a life that made her feel trapped. The deal is strictly business, both agree, until Hank turns out to be every fantasy she ever had.

Janet Evanovich is the master at knowing what women wants. If you want a romance, BAM, she delivers. If you want funny, BAM, she's on top of that too. I've not yet been disappointed with one of her books. The plots in her books, however predictable, are always fun and entertaining. And she never fails to deliver a very well rounded happily ever after - and that really IS why we read these books, right?

Janet is also the master of creating characters that you can relate to and are enjoyable. I always fall in love with the male protagonist right along with the female protagonist. She makes them utterly irresistible!

Wife for Hire is a scenario that seems like it could work - yeah RIGHT! Major set up for romantic issues or faults. I loved the tension and intensity between Hank and Maggie. Throughout the book you can actually see the characters growing as people, and falling into the place that they are meant to. I did get a tiny bit frustrated with Maggie, who really was overly obsessed with "fitting in" rather than being comfortable in her skin. I felt she was a bit overly judgmental towards most of Hank's neighbors, but most of that was just Maggie's own self consciousness.
